- Hi. I am afraid that my modem is unable to process error
- correction. Have I been ripped off? Here are the symptoms. I will
- greatly appreciate an answer or any helpful hint. I am a new
- subscriber, so please forgive any stupid newbie stuff.
-
- -1- When I connect to the Invention Factory, I get the message
- "CONNECT 14400/V32/NONE". I think "NONE" means that I get neither
- error correction nor compression (the latter does not concern me
- as much now). I would expect to see "V42" there, which the seller
- said is in the modem.
-
- -2- Dribble on the screen, two to four lines of 8-bit gibberish,
- every time I sign off until the message "NO CARRIER" appears.
-
- -3- Also, now and then I get a few characters of gibberish on the
- command line, which I can erase as if I had typed them in.
-
- -4- More importantly, when I tell the modem "AT\Nn" I can only use
- n=0 or 1, but not 2, 3, or 4.
-
- Any hints?
-
